7 Tips for Springing into a New Fitness Routine

With spring officially here, many of us feel rejuvenated and ready to get out of a winter slump. While most people are getting ready to focus on “Marie Kondo-ing” their homes, we think it’s a great time to tidy up your health and fitness regimen too. If punching and kicking bags doesn’t spark joy for you, what will?!

To help get you started, we’ve put together a few tips on how to start a new routine and keep it going throughout the year!

 

1. FIND YOUR MOTIVATION

After you’ve recommitted to cleanliness and organization, recommit yourself to making exercise a priority. Making the decision to change your routine requires dedication, so start with your own vision board to get motivated. Inspirational quotes are great motivators, so pick your favorite ones to use for extra encouragement later on.

2. KICK NEGATIVE THOUGHTS TO THE CURB

Keep the best mindset possible with positive thoughts! Don’t hold on to any discouraging thoughts or you’ll create mental roadblocks that can distract you. Being distracted during a workout means you might not be getting the most out of it physically or mentally. Keep that “fresh start” mentality by only focusing on the positive things to come.

3. SET GOALS THAT EXCITE YOU

Avoid creating expectations that are unrealistic – make attainable and measurable goals for yourself that encourage you to keep up your new routine! That doesn’t mean they have to be easy; make sure to challenge yourself so you can keep making progress. And remember, it’s not all about weight-loss. A few goals we love are:

- achieve at least 60 PULSE points per workout

- get to the gym 3 times per week

- perform 20 push-ups on the toes without stopping

4. MAINTAINING A ROUTINE

Starting a new exercise routine might sound like the hard part but maintaining your regimen can be an even tougher challenge. 5. DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL THINGS – SETBACKS HAPPEN

If you don’t accomplish every goal you’ve set, it’s not the end of the world. Small victories are still victories! We all go through the unfortunate ruts and are sometimes tempted to quit, but it’s important to remember why you started this journey. Write down your accomplishments as you go, as a way to catalog your success.

6. BUILD A KICKA$$ SUPPORT SYSTEM

We mentioned in a January blog all the benefits of bringing a buddy to work out with you, and this is no exception! Whether it’s a co-worker or your bff, they can make hitting the gym an even better experience. Having a friend tag along will be a fun change in your regimen, plus… who doesn’t love a little friendly competition?!

7. CHANGE IT UP

Changing up your workouts is pivotal to your success. Not only does it keep you mentally engaged, but it keeps your body guessing, which is an important factor in seeing results.
