Turn Your Summer Getaway into a Fitaway
The school year is winding down and summer is almost upon us. Whether that stresses you out (hello, why are there so many kids running around the house?!) or you can't wait for endless barbecues and long days by the pool, one thing we can all look forward to is a little summer getaway! If there is a downside to summer vacations it's that it is easy to get off-track with your fitness routine. However, since the PRO list for a summer holiday is way longer then the cons, know that there are plenty of things you can do to stay active and have fun while you're away.
Take a hike, run, or ride a bike
Most of us like to drive everywhere we go, but you can get in some exercise and take it a little bit slower on your vacation by walking, running or riding a bike. A sunrise walk or run on the beach is tough to beat. Or hit the trails for a hiking or biking excursion. Many vacation desitinations have bike rentals available, so you don't even have to worry about installing that bike rack. These are all ways to take in some new sights and get in a little bit of exercise while enjoying your vacation.
Look for fun physical activities
There are many different types of physical activities you can participate in while on vacation. It really depends on where you go and how hard you are willing to look. If you visit the beach, you could try scuba diving, going out on paddle boards, an impromptu game of beach volleyball and, of course, swimming. If you like to go camping in the woods, you could try canoeing down the river or rock climbing. Wherever you plan to visit, there is always something fun and exciting that can keep you active. Anything where you can have fun and still get your heart rate up is the way to go, and your body and your family will be thanking you for the great times.
Discover the local gyms
When you decide on a place for your vacation, scout out the local fitness centers. Usually, your hotel will have one onsite at no cost to you. This can be really convenient for you and allow you the chance to use any available free time to quickly slip away and get in a few minutes of workout time. If all else fails, you can always do some jumping jacks, planks, burpees or push ups in your hotel, at your camp site, or on the beach! You deserve to enjoy a relaxing vacation and escape the demands of every day life, but that doesn't mean you have to foresake your fitness routine. Remember, exercise releases endorphins and helps melt away stress! So, get out there and enjoy your summer vacation, while finding ways to stay active and turn your getaway into a fitaway.
